Welcome to Matiu Somes Charitable Trust

Matiu/Somes Island and two smaller islands - Mokopuna and Makaro/Ward - are located in Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington Harbour). They are seen by many as 'jewels in the harbour' because of their status as scientific and historic reserves, and the long-term focus on developing and maintaining native flora and fauna.

We will publish regular News items for members and visitors about environmental projects and programmes, and other activities taking place on the island. Blog pages will be progressively added so that Friends of Matiu/Somes Island (MSICT’s members), sponsors, donors, and visitors receive regular reports on these activities.
